LAKE HAVEN HOUSE

Alterations · Built
Lake Haven House makes thoughtful use of a long lakeside site, retaining the existing rear dwelling while introducing a contemporary three-bedroom home at the street frontage.
Separate access and a two-lot subdivision allow both residences to function independently, with open-plan living extending to a covered alfresco area and garden.
The result balances privacy, practicality and connection, creating two distinct homes with a simple, contemporary character.
Rather than starting again, the design builds on what is already there. Careful siting, private gardens and a clear relationship between the two dwellings allow the property to evolve while preserving the established home and its lakeside setting.
01 / THE BRIEF & OVERVIEW
Project name: Lake Haven House Location: Lake Haven, Central Coast, NSW Project type: Alterations + Additions · Built Scope: Residential design and DA documentation
Two homes, one thoughtfully shared site.
Set on a long lakeside site, the proposal retains the existing rear dwelling and introduces a contemporary three-bedroom home at the street frontage.
Separate vehicle access and a two-lot subdivision allow both homes to function independently.
Open-plan living connects to a covered alfresco area and garden, while upstairs bedrooms provide privacy.
Charcoal cladding, light - coloured finishes and timber details give the new home a simple, contemporary character.
02 / EXISTING + CONCEPT
The long, narrow 1,031 m² site slopes from Malvina Parade towards Budgewoi Lake. An existing split-level home sits towards the rear, while the front contains a driveway, carport and outdoor space.
The proposal retains the rear dwelling and replaces the front carport with a new two-storey, three-bedroom home.
A two-lot subdivision, separate vehicle access and private outdoor spaces allow both homes to function independently.
Open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas connect to a covered alfresco area and garden, while upstairs bedrooms provide separation between shared and private spaces.
03 / PLANS
The new two-storey home occupies the street-facing portion of the site, while the existing dwelling remains towards the lake.
A driveway along one side provides access to the rear home. Separate entries, gardens and planting give each dwelling its own sense of privacy.
The ground floor follows a sequence from street to garden. The entry and lounge sit at the front, with the dining area and kitchen leading towards a covered alfresco space.
The garage, laundry and WC are grouped along one side, allowing the main living areas to remain open and connected.
Upstairs, three bedrooms and their bathrooms form a quieter, private level.
The design makes room for an independent new home while retaining the existing dwelling, using a clear layout and a strong connection to outdoor space to make the compact front lot feel generous.
04 / MATERIAL PALETTE

05 / THE PROJECT
Two homes, one thoughtfully shared site.
Lake Haven House brings a new chapter to an established lakeside property, retaining the existing rear dwelling and introducing a contemporary three-bedroom home at the street frontage.
Separate access, private gardens and a proposed two-lot subdivision give each home its own space and independence.
The new home pairs a simple two-storey form with charcoal cladding, light finishes and warm timber details.
Inside, living spaces connect to a covered alfresco area and garden, while bedrooms upstairs offer a quieter retreat.
Together, the two homes make thoughtful use of the long site, balancing everyday practicality, privacy and connection to the outdoors.
06 / BEHIND THE PROJECT
The story begins with a long, sloping site and a home already rooted at its lake-facing end. Rather than remove it, the project makes room for a second home near the street.
The new house has its own entry and private garden, while a driveway along the side preserves access to the existing dwelling.
Inside, the plan moves from the street-facing lounge through the kitchen and dining area to a covered alfresco space.
Bedrooms sit upstairs, away from the shared living areas. Together, the two homes show how a site can grow while retaining what was already there.
