Residential Studio is an architecture and interiors practice creating considered homes shaped around the way people truly live. We design new homes, renovations, additions and interiors that feel calm, practical and deeply personal—bringing together thoughtful planning, natural light, fresh air, enduring materials and a meaningful connection to the landscape.

Meet Barb
Barbara Busina is the Founder and Principal Architect of Residential Studio. A NSW Registered Architect with more than 18 years of experience, Barb brings architectural expertise, interior sensibility and an understanding of the everyday realities of family life to every project.
Her approach is warm, curious and collaborative. She believes the best design conversations leave room for imagination and practical questions: how a home should feel, how it will function, what the site can support and where the project budget will have the most impact.
Barb founded Residential Studio in 2020 after working in architectural practices in Sydney and Newcastle. Her background also includes and teaching architectural design and technology at UNSW, experience that informs an approach connecting the overall vision with the details people touch and use every day.
Barb works closely with clients to translate ideas, inspiration and often competing priorities into a clear architectural direction. Her role is not simply to draw a building, but to reveal opportunities, explain trade-offs and guide the many decisions that turn an early idea into a well-resolved home.
Designed to feel good, every day
We believe comfort deserves as much attention as appearance. Natural light, fresh air, shade, materials and connections to nature are central to our design process. We consider how the sun moves across a site, where a breeze might enter, how rooms relate to one another and where a quiet moment could happen.
Sustainability starts with these early decisions. Making better use of existing spaces, planning an efficient footprint and choosing durable materials can contribute to a home that uses resources thoughtfully and adapts as needs change.
