The concept pairs a quieter front portion with a low rear addition. Living, kitchen and dining gather around the garden, creating places to connect while preserving room to retreat. Pale timber, warm stone and muted terracotta establish a restrained architectural language, softened by linen, foliage and changing light.

The proposed brief is to create a warm, connected home with a garden at the centre of daily life. Shared spaces should support cooking, conversation and gathering, while quieter rooms offer privacy and flexibility.

The starting priorities are to retain useful existing fabric where appropriate, make circulation simple, integrate storage and service spaces, and give landscape a meaningful role in the plan. These are working intentions to test against the eventual site and household brief.

02 / Concept

A planted courtyard organises the rear addition, linking living, kitchen and dining with the garden. An enclosed route connects the front rooms for year-round comfort. Site constraints will determine whether a side courtyard or smaller light court is most suitable, while pale timber, stone and layered planting create a calm architectural character.

03 / Plans

The first planning study explores a single-storey, three-bedroom arrangement. This is a working assumption for design testing, not a confirmed accommodation brief. Your entry reference informs a recessed timber doorway, timber-lined canopy, pale vertical cladding, a stone return and terracotta steps.

The plan explores four connected parts:

06 / Behind the project

Randwick Terrace Courtyard House begins with a visual idea and develops it into an architectural proposition. Its next stage is to test whether the courtyard can deliver useful light, privacy and outdoor connection within the constraints of a real terrace property.

The first inputs are a site address, survey, north point, existing plans and photographs, neighbouring context, household brief and budget. These will inform measured plans, sections, elevations and a roof study, followed by coordinated structure, drainage, envelope and services design and cost advice.

Environmental performance, buildability and affordability remain ambitions to investigate. The project is presented as a studio concept, with supplied AI-generated imagery and AI-assisted perspective studies supporting the design exploration.
